Karin Maßen was born in Spaichingen in 1955. She studied German, philosophy, and history to become a teacher. During her studies, she worked as an assistant director and in the collective and independent theater scene. She also completed training as a theater educator.
For twelve years. Karin Maßen taught at grammar schools. She has worked as a continuing education and training manager for teachers of all types of schools. For more than 30 years, she has been a freelance lecturer in theater, music, German, and media education at the Theresia Scherer School, a vocational school for social professions, in Rheinfelden.
Since 1995, she has been the theater director of the Theater Tempus fugit in Lörrach, which she co-founded. Today, a permanent team of 14.5 employees works there in the areas of acting, theater education, inclusion, public relations, training, administration, and technology.
Karin Maßen has received numerous awards for her commitment. In 2010, the Lörrach Citizens' Foundation honored her as the founder and driving force behind the Tempus fugit theater with its Citizens' Prize. In 2016, Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann awarded her the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
Karin Maßen combines artistic with social and educational principles. Her theater is strongly project-oriented, bringing together schools, youth theater groups, and independent productions. In her work, Karin Maßen not only focuses on artistic quality criteria; theater must also be a place for personal growth, responsibility, and the active participation of young people.
