The conference had two programme lines, “entrepreneurship and young artists” and “promoting diversity through urban culture with special attention to peer coaching”. The programme was a mix of keynote speeches, interactive workshops, project presentations, and artistic performances developed during the “U-CARE” and “Steps Ahead” projects. Dancers and musicians from France and The Netherlands showcased their U-CARE Collaboration, which they had created together within one week in summer 2014.
The U-CARE project involved hundreds of young artists in 8 European countries from 2012 to 2014. Check the video documentary from the U-CARE Summer Academy, hosted by jfc Medienzentrum at Landesmusikakademie NRW Heek-Nienborg/Germany in August 2013:
On 26th September 2014, 80 participants from 8 EU member states participated in an international ROOTS & ROUTES conference in Rotterdam, which also was the final event of the projects “U-CARE – Urban Culture Against Racism in Europe” and “Steps Ahead – Professionalisation of Junior Coaches in Performing Arts and Media”.
U-CARE was funded by the EU programme Fundamental Rights and Citizenship; Steps Ahead was funded by the EU programme LEONARDO.
