For the “Octopus” project, the association ROOTS & ROUTES Cologne traveled to the North Sea island of Baltrum with almost 40 young artists from 6 different countries and a team of professional artistic coaches. Between saltwater and sand dunes, they nestled on the edge of a nature reserve in the premises of the BK-Heim to follow the impulses and feelings that arise from working with the eight-legged creatures.
9 brains, 3 hearts, 8 tentacles.

Highly intelligent shape-shifters that populated the oceans of our planet even before the dinosaurs. Even today, these wondrous creatures have lost nothing of their peculiarity; as the subject of ancient myths, current documentaries and futuristic science fiction, they can be placed at the center of attention again and again as a symbol.

From multitasking to adaptation, from community to love and self-healing – there are no limits to the interpretations of the participants in this experimental artistic exchange.

In internationally mixed creative groups, artists from 6 countries developed thematic short films, music clips and experimental media works: Within two weeks on the North Sea island of Baltrum, in a self-catering house on the edge of a nature reserve, where the entire group lives, cooks, sleeps, eats, discusses and produces together.

The resulting short films, live performances, installations, songs and/or music videos were presented to the public at the final presentation in Cologne.
